Introduction


All personnel and visitors entering the UCD/MNRC facility shall receive training in radiation safety sufficient for the work/visit or shall be escorted by an individual who has received such training. The Health Physics Branch or equivalent shall give all training described below.

Training shall cover the following areas in sufficient depth for the work being done:

  1. Storage, transfer, and use of radioactive material and of radiation in portions of the restricted area, including radioactive waste management and disposal.

  2. Health protection problems and health risks associated with exposure to radioactive materials or radiation using Reg Guide 8.29 and instructions concerning prenatal radiation exposure using Reg Guide 8.13.

  3. Precautions or procedures to minimize exposure (ALARA).

  4. Purposes and functions of protective devices.

  5. Applicable regulations and license requirements for the protection of personnel from exposure to radiation or radioactive materials.

  6. Responsibility to report potential regulatory and license violations or unnecessary exposure to radiation or radioactive materials.

  7. Appropriate response to warnings in the event of an unusual occurrence or malfunction that involves radiation or radioactive materials.

  8. Radiation exposure reports that workers may request.
