Consulting for Industry

Consulting with a company is an arrangement between you as an individual and the company. That said, you have some overriding obligations to the university.

Inventions: You need to disclose any invention made during the course of the consulting when you are or should be named as an inventor. The nature of the invention and the resources used will determine if the university needs to assert ownership. Learn more about this in Evaluating and Patenting Inventions.

Confidentiality clauses and agreements: If the consulting agreement includes confidentiality clauses make sure you check for clauses that may impact your university commitments and also your research program.
