New UC Davis Cybersecurity Requirements to be Implemented by May 2025
Earlier this year, University of California President Michael Drake called on each campus to strengthen their cybersecurity posture and mitigate potential risks by developing an updated information security investment plan with implementation by May 2025. In his letter, Drake stressed, “Protecting the University’s sensitive information and systems is of paramount importance.”
As organizations across the United States face more frequent and sophisticated cybersecurity threats, implementation of these requirements is critical to our institutional resilience as well as to our reputation.
In response, UC Davis established a Cybersecurity Oversight Committee with Information and Educational Technology (IET), Information Security Office (ISO) and in collaboration with campus IT Directors to develop action plans to meet these new requirements.
Implementation of the new cybersecurity requirements will lead to:
- Proactive, collaborative planning across UC campuses
- Better protection for university digital infrastructure and data
- Stronger cybersecurity posture for each individual campus
- Enhanced risk mitigation strategies
Campus IT directors will lead the initiative but require the cooperation of all employees for full implementation.
Non-compliant units face significant consequences including financial penalties.
We are confident that all units share our commitment to protecting our vital information and systems. We encourage you to work with your local IT units and Campus IET teams to implement our UC Davis plan effectively by May 2025.
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a collaborative engagement protecting the University’s sensitive information and systems.
