Research Collaboration and Funding Opportunities Available with Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System
The University of California, Davis and the Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) have been working together since 1975 to provide unique training, education, and research collaborations. This partnership includes a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate clinical research and collaborative projects, as well as an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Reliance agreement for joint projects.
Researchers at UC Davis are encouraged to explore opportunities with VANCHCS, which has 50 principal investigators and over 100 active clinical studies. VANCHCS offers a wide range of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, primary care, and mental health services to over 100,000 Veterans across Northern California. They have a medical center in Sacramento, as well as 12 outpatient clinics that cover 30,000 square miles of rural and urban areas.
Some specific research priorities at VANCHCS include pain management, suicide, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, toxic exposures, health disparities, and rural health. The projects cover various research areas from basic laboratory research to patient-focused clinical trials of investigational new drugs, behavioral interventions and devices, as well as studies of health care policy, finance, and delivery systems.
Funding opportunities are also available for pilot studies and large multi-site cooperative studies.
