Sam Bishop-Green Appointed Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor for Research at UC Davis

The University of California, Davis, Office of Research is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Bishop-Green as chief of staff to the vice chancellor for research effective January 6, 2025.

The new position, created by Vice Chancellor Simon Atkinson, will champion strategic planning, develop and manage a portfolio of key initiatives and oversee communications for the Office of Research.

“As chief of staff, Sam will play a pivotal role as we work to enhance the research infrastructure throughout UC Davis,” said Atkinson. “A primary focus will be to ensure the tools, programs and resources are in place for sustainable growth beyond $1 billion in annual research funding.”

Bishop-Green brings a background anchored in higher education with over ten years of experience at UC Davis in various roles and a progression of responsibilities and impact. He currently serves as the chief of staff for the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, a position he has held since 2021. Prior to this role, he served as assistant director for UC Davis’ Preferred Partnership Program, associate director of Admission for the Graduate School of Management and special projects manager for UC Davis Intercollegiate Athletics.

A believer in lifelong learning and continued professional development, Bishop-Green earned an M.B.A. and B.A., both from UC Davis.  He was selected for the UC-Coro Systemwide Leadership Collaborative 2022 Cohort and recently completed a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification program.

“I am grateful to Vice Chancellor Atkinson for this opportunity to continue to serve UC Davis,” said Bishop-Green. “I welcome the opportunity partner with those in the Office of Research and across the campus to continue the upward trajectory of research funding. With my experiences on both the Davis and Health campuses, I’m confident I can bring a collaborative and strategic lens to achieve our goals.”
