Laurie Brignolo Appointed to AAALAC International Council on Accreditation

Laurie Brignolo, executive director of the UC Davis Research and Teaching Animal Care Program has been appointed to the AAALAC, International Council on Accreditation. AAALAC is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. More than 1,000 companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions in 49 countries have earned AAALAC accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use. Participation in the accreditation is voluntary and is in addition to complying with the local, state and federal laws that regulate animal research.
AAALAC’s Council on Accreditation is comprised of animal care and use professionals and researchers from around the globe. They conduct the site visits and program evaluations that determine which institutions are awarded AAALAC accreditation. The Council includes North American, European and Pacific Rim sections which evaluate programs in their respective region. Brignolo will be joining a team of 45 council members and will represent AAALAC as lead on accreditation site visits throughout North America.
