The work of this committee is divided into two subcommittees: Policy: establishes policy and criteria associated with the Committee on Research grant program and reviews all research policy and makes recommendations to the administration and Davis Division; Grants: reviews all application for Committee on Research Large Grants and determines awards.

Administrative Coordinating Council of Deans (ACCD)

The Administrative Coordinating Council of Deans (ACCD) primarily coordinates institutional matches in support of major extramural grants that involve faculty from three or more schools/colleges/divisions (or faculty from Office of Research + 2 colleges/schools/divisions).

Anatomical Materials Review Committee (AMRC)

The Anatomical Materials Review Committee (AMRC) is responsible for reviewing and recommending action on requests to use anatomical specimens. The committee is chaired by the Responsible Executive Officer as designated by the Dean of the School of Medicine, and is staffed by the Donated Body Program staff.

Biorepository Workgroup

The Biorepository workgroup advises the Vice Chancellor for Research on development and implementation strategies for a comprehensive, contemporary and campus-wide guidance on biorepositories at UC Davis. The Vice Chancellor for Research selects and appoints members of the Biorepository workgroup and provides staff support to the Biorepository workgroup.

College of Engineering: Research & Library Committee

The COE Research & Library Committee seeks to identify interdisciplinary research opportunities and coordinate interdepartmental or college-wide responses. The Committee acts to recommend selection of faculty proposals in cases where limited COE or university submission is necessary. The Committee provides advice on matters related to COE research facilities.

Committee for Research Integrity (CRI)

The Committee for Research Integrity is composed of faculty and administrators from the Davis campus and the Health System. The committee is responsible for recommending strategies for maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations and UC policies regarding the responsible conduct of research, developing training and education programs in the area of research ethics and management, reviewing research compliance policies and procedures, and engaging in other activities aimed at improving research compliance. The Provost selects and appoints members of the CRI and the Vice Chancellor for Research provides staff support to the CRI.

Conflict of Interest Committee (COIC)

The Conflict of Interest Committee (COIC) advises the Vice Chancellor of Research on potential conflicts of interest in research based upon financial disclosures from investigators and recommends action to be taken in response to such conflicts. This faculty-based committee welcomes receiving faculty applications. The Vice Chancellor for Research selects and appoints members of the COIC and provides staff support to the COIC.

Core Facilities Committee

The Core Facilities committee provides the Vice Chancellor for Research and campus leadership with perspectives and suggestions for the revision of the current structures and procedures for research “cores” and recommendations concerning the future of core administration. The Vice Chancellor for Research selects and appoints members of the Core Facilities committee and provides staff support to the committee.

Human Anatomical Specimen and Tissue Oversight Committee (HASTOC)

The Human Anatomical Specimen and Tissue Oversight Committee (HASTOC) was established to provide a uniform approach and process for the procurement, use, transportation, inventory, management, transfer and disposal of human anatomical specimens. As part of its charge, HASTOC serves as the UC Davis Anatomical Advisory Board. The Dean of the School of Medicine selects and appoints members of HASTOC and the Vice Chancellor for Research provides staff support to HASTOC.

Industry Relations Committee

This committee is advisory to the Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences and reports to the UC Davis Health Compliance Executive Committee to draft directives and review health system policy; provide resources and direction to faculty and administration; review annual faculty conflict of interest disclosure statements; review teaching, and professional service arrangements or proposals; and field questions and inquiries related to conflict of commitment, conflict of interest and vendor relations for faculty and staff.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The IACUC oversees the UC Davis Animal Care and Use program. The IACUC’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: reviewing the university’s program for the humane care and use of animals used in research and teaching and the status of the institution’s animal facilities. The IACUC reviews approves, requires modifications, or withholds approval of Animal Care and Use Protocols. The Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Resource Management has been delegated the responsibilities and authority of the Institutional Official of the Animal Care program. The department of Safety Services provides the staff support to the IACUC.

Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

The UC Davis Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) provides oversight of campus and UCDHS research, teaching, and related activities that involve recombinant DNA technology, infectious agents, and other biohazardous materials. The IBC assesses each project, determines the appropriate containment (biosafety) level, and approves these activities through the Biological Use Authorization (BUA) process. The IBC membership and business activities conform to the requirements of the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules. The Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Resource Management appoints IBC members and provides staff support to the IBC.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to review and make decisions on all research involving human subjects at the University of California, Davis, with the intent of ensuring compliance with the appropriate regulations and policy, designed to ensure that the safety and welfare of subjects are properly protected. The IRB at UC Davis is comprised of three committees: two clinical (IRB-A, IRB –B) and one social and behavioral (IRB-C), with members of each committee including UC Davis faculty, clinicians, staff, students and community members. The Vice Chancellor for Research selects and appoints members of the IRB and provides staff support to the IRB.

Research Coordinating Council (RCC)

The Research Coordinating Council (RCC) consists of Associate Deans for Research or their equivalents from the various colleges and schools. They meet quarterly to discuss ongoing research efforts, identify and address issues pertaining to research across Schools and Colleges, and to serve as a forum to share feedback and solicit input on challenges and new investments.  Committee members are appointed by nature of their positions as Associate Deans for Research or are appointed by their Dean when there isn’t an Associate Dean for Research for the college or school. The RCC is convened by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and staff support is provided by Research Development Services.

Research Recommendations Implementation Committee (RRIC)

The Research Recommendations Implementation Committee (RRIC) advises the Vice Chancellor for Research on implementation strategies for the improvements recommended by the Chancellor’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Research, the Chancellor’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Technology Transfer and Commercialization and the consultant report issued by the Washington Advisory Group. The Chancellor selects and appoints members of RRIC and the Vice Chancellor for Research provides staff support to RRIC.

Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (SCRO)

The Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (SCRO) approves, requires modification, or disapproves human adult and embryonic stem cell research at UC Davis and the UC Davis Health System. The Vice Chancellor for Research selects and appoints members of the SCRO and provides staff support to the SCRO.

Translational Research Integration and Compliance Committee (TRICC)

The Translational Research Integration and Compliance Committee (TRICC) is responsible for the review, analysis, and recommendation regarding the activities and reports for the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), Office of Research, Pharmacy Department Investigational Drug Unit, CQI/Licensure and Accreditation, School of Medicine Office of Research, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and Compliance Office in support of clinical and translational research at UC Davis. This committee reports to the Executive Associate Dean, Vice Chancellor/Dean, UC Davis School of Medicine and relevant CTSC Oversight Committees.
