Husbandry Unit
Teaching Research and Animal Care Services (TRACS) Husbandry facilities encompass over 103,000 square feet, which includes 290 animal holding rooms, procedure rooms, and cage wash areas, and are held in over 30 buildings located across both Davis and Sacramento Medical Center campuses.
TRACS Husbandry is dedicated to the humane care of all animals used in biomedical research and teaching on campus. Husbandry staff is responsible for the feeding, watering, and care of animals 365 days a year. TRACS manages the purchasing and ordering of animals for animals housed in TRACS vivaria and for facilities not maintained by TRACS. We are involved in the receipt of animals, cage/animal identification, and animal transport. We provide cage sanitation, equipment sterilization, and delivery services for both TRACS and non-TRACS maintained animal facilities on both Davis and Sacramento campuses.
In addition to meeting State and Federal Animal Care Guidelines UC Davis volunteers for the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) program to demonstrate our commitment to achieving excellence in laboratory animal care.
Nominations can be submitted at any time by a TRACS employee or others (i.e. researchers or facilities) and will be kept on file for one year. This recognition is for TRACS technicians and resubmissions are welcome. TRACS management will keep all submissions confidential.
