Teaching and Research Animal Care ServicesTeaching and Research Animal Care Services (TRACS) is the main animal care unit that provides daily care and oversight of animals used in teaching and research at UC Davis. TRACS husbandry services for established per diem rates include daily health checks of animals, monitoring of feed and water intake, cage/pen conditions, required cage change and husbandry as stated in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and room environmental monitoring. Documentation of this is done 365 days per year and is available for review at the animal housing room level. TRACS also provides business operations including purchasing, receiving and transporting animals.

Mission Statement

Under the direction of the campus Attending Veterinarian, TRACS will help ensure humane care and use of animals used in teaching and research and is a leader in UC Davis’ Animal Care Program. TRACS is dedicated to helping conduct animal experiments in accordance with the highest scientific and ethical principles and to assisting with the advancement of scientific knowledge and the future of research goals set forth by the University of California, Davis.
