Privately Funded
The State of California requires the Principal Investigator to complete and submit an online 700-U Form if a non-governmental entity funds or supports the research, in whole or in part, by a contract, grant or other funds earmarked by the donor for a specific project or for a specific researcher.
Human Subject Research
If your privately funded research involves human subjects, two online forms (700-U and Form 800) must be completed and submitted under UC Davis Policy as follows:
Form 700-U
Only the Principal Investigator (per UC Davis PPM 230-05) must complete and submit a online 700-U. Completion of the 700-U is not required if the State has placed the sponsor on the exempt list. If the sponsor is not on the exempt list, the PI must:
- Complete a Form 700-U online
- Complete a Supplemental Form if you answered yes to any questions on the 700-U.
- NOTE: A “Positive Disclosure” cannot be reviewed without a completed Supplemental Form. Failure to submit a completed and signed Supplement Form may result in a delay in funding.
Form 800
If your privately funded research involves human subjects (per UC Davis PPM 230-05), the PI and all other Investigators must also:
- Complete a Form 800 online
- Complete a Supplemental Form if you answered yes to the significant financial interest question.
- NOTE: A “Positive Disclosure” cannot be reviewed without a completed Supplemental Form. Failure to submit a completed and signed Supplement Form may result in a delay in funding.
Non-Human Subject Research
If your privately funded research does not involve human subjects, the PI only needs to complete and submit a Form 700 (and Supplemental if applicable) following the process indicated above. A Form 800 is not required.
